Join the Band!
Let's face it.
1. You've considered joining a band for quite awhile,
2. You used to play in high school, but life got busy and you put it aside for awhile, or
3. You always wanted to play, but just never got started.
Now (actually....ANYTIME!) is a GREAT time to get started!
a). Grab your band instrument from the back of the closet .....you know which closet....,
b). Lube up the slides and the valves,
c). Buy new reeds,
(seriously...get NEW reeds!)
d). Maybe splurge for a couple new drum sticks,
......and get started practicing.
You will probably need to take a little time to get your lip back into shape, get those note fingerings back to feeling fairly natural again, and let the family (and the pets!) hear you bang on the drum once more, but everything will come back quickly.
Once you get to know us, you might be surprised to find that community bands are filled with people who USED to play, but had to quit for awhile (and sometimes more than once) as life and family responsibilities constantly changed, work schedules changed, etc.
And there are always several people who didn't realize till later in life that they wanted to, and had time to, learn to play a band instrument, and so that's when they started, and so THAT'S when they joined us!
If you have questions about:
1. How to get started,
2. . Maybe where you can get a decent, fairly inexpensive, instrument (and yes.......inexpensive, but totally usable, band instruments are around if you know where to look), or
3. Even where to go to get some basic tune-up and repair done on your instrument,
.....come on to practice and check with the band members, and the odds are that we can help you with almost all of that. After all, we routinely need that stuff, too.
If you've ever seen the band, you will know that the members come from all age ranges (and I mean ALL age ranges) and of varying skill levels on their respective instruments.
They come to play in the band because they like the family atmosphere, they like to make music and give back to the community in that manner, and because community band members can usually tell you where the BEST festival food is at all the events where they perform.
The band would love to have you!
