Henry Fillmore
(1881-1956)
(1881-1956)
There are probably not many musicians who have ever spent time in either school bands or community bands who have not heard of Henry Fillmore.
Fillmore was born in Cincinnati, Ohio and played several instruments, including trombone.
Among his many other compositions for bands he wrote 15 novelty numbers for the trombone. These songs were written from 1908 to 1929.
Probably the 4 most popular ones from this group of 15 compositions would be (in no special order) "Lassus Trombone", " Miss Trombone", "Teddy Trombone", and "Shoutin' Liza Trombone".
It would be fair to say that very few musicians, including very few trombone players, have ever even heard of ALL of these songs, let alone PLAYED them all.
However, they were finally all released by Fillmore in one book entitled: "The Trombone Family---A Collection of 15 Original & Humorous Trombone Novelties".
We have scouted YouTube extensively for videos/sound tracks of all of these songs just so that you can have ready access to them all through this web page.
In addition, on one of the other pages in this LINKS section ("Interesting Music Videos") we have placed links to Youtube videos of several different versions of "Lassus Trombone". This includes versions by both Spike Jones and Lawrence Welk.
Unlike many composers, Fillmore enjoyed when others took his music and put different interpretations on it. In fact, his favorite version of "Lassus" was by Spike Jones.
We hope you enjoy the videos below!
